"Love is a door that lovers enter together but when it ends, they need to figure out how to walk out on their own" by PQHAÜS
(Acrylic on canvas / 16x20 inches / 2023)
This work is about how love is often a door that lovers enter together at first but when it ends, they need to figure out how to walk out on their own.
I was initially inspired by the idea of how certain things in our life have the easiest entrance but the hardest exit. And one of the best examples I could think of was falling in love with someone.
In this work, the love between these two individuals has been terminated as you can tell by looking at the mural painting being covered up with a fresh coat of new paint. Although they mutually decided to end their relationship, they are still hesitant to walk out the door because they have been so used to staying where they were before. They aren’t ready to walk out the door to live their lives without one another.
The green traffic flight above the door symbolizes “Time to move on” but each individual isn’t able to see it as they are still occupied with their feelings and emptiness. This scene insinuates how we get to realize how we were so immature and vulnerable after time passes.
